Welcome to the web site of the Rotary Club of Reading Maiden Erlegh; we meet every Tuesday evening - subject to occasional scatter visits - at the Senior Common Room, Reading University.
Our meetings start at 8pm,
but our President, Robin Edwards - pictured left - always looks forward to
welcoming our visitors from 7:30pm in the bar.
The Club itself
was formed in September 1988 and its Charter was presented on 16th
May 1989; it is one of six
Rotary
Clubs in
Reading
and originally had 37 founder members - the membership is currently 55. The emblem of the
Club includes a water wheel commemorating the old
flour mill which stood on the site of the present Reading Moat House
Hotel at Mill Lane, Sindlesham and a black swan which was once a
regular visitor to the nearby River Loddon. Each year our President chooses a charity that he or she would particularly like the Club to support and this year the President's Charity is Thrive based in Beech Hill. Founded in 1978, Thrive is a national charity that makes use of gardening to change the lives of disabled people. Thrive’s activities are varied but all focus on championing the benefits of gardening to individuals and organisations, as well as teaching techniques and practical applications so that anyone with a disability can take part and enjoy this activity. If you would like to visit our Rotary Club one evening - even if you are not a Rotarian - or just find out more about Rotary in general, please feel free to complete our feedback form or contact our Club Secretary who will be pleased to send you details of our next meeting. You are also very welcome to have a look around our web site, and if you have any suggestions for improvements or additions our webmaster would be more than happy to hear from you.
